North Cyprus
The island of Cyprus is located in the Eastern Mediterranean. Its nearest neighbour is Turkey, some 40 nautical miles north. Scarcely 100 miles long and 40 miles wide, the geography of North Cyprus is characterized by a unique blend of mountains, plains and beaches.
To the east of the island the mountain range loses height as it extends along the narrow peninsula known as Karpas or "The Panhandle". Along it one finds the best beaches in Cyprus. Miles of empty bays with pure white sand.

The resort town of Kyrenia is on the northern coast, and the second resort town of Famagusta in the east.

Quite apart from the huge range of cultivated flowers, North Cyprus and especially the Karpas peninsula is a rich botanical area with literally hundreds of species of wild flowers from crown anemones and pink rock roses, to purple iris and yellow crowfoot. From February to June many areas of North Cyprus are carpeted with colourful wild flowers. The birds and the butterflies also are glorious, lizards abound, and the loggerhead and green turtle still come ashore to lay their eggs on North Cyprus's unspoiled beaches.

The climate of North Cyprus is typically Mediterranean. Summers (June to September) are hot and dry; winters (November to March) are moderately rainy, with a mild temperature. Spring and autumn are warm and pleasant.

The average annual temperature is 20°C (68F). Summer temperatures average 30°C (90F) with the coldest months of January and February 10°C (50F).

As Northern Cyprus remains unrecognized by most of the international community, there are no direct flights from Europe. However, some charter companies avoid this problem by touching down in Turkey before proceeding to Ercan, the airport located a few miles to the east of Nicosia. In addition, there are regular flights by Cyprus Turkish Airlines and Turkish Airlines between Ercan and all the major airports in Turkey, which are linked by the international carriers to most destinations in Europe.

There are also regular car-ferry services between Famagusta and Mersin (Turkey), and Kyrenia and Tasucu (Turkey). It is possible to drive from London to Cyprus in four days, or travel with one of the several bus services which operate between England and North Cyprus, but this can be an exhausting and sometimes harrowing way to start a holiday.

Situated in the popular village of Alsancak sits this lovely stone house offering many comforts one expects from a holiday villa. Offering 3 air conditioned bedrooms, one with a King size bed and two with twin beds, the Master bedroom is also ensuite. Sports

Although sports-centre complexes are new to North Cyprus, the sporting enthusiast will find a host of opportunities throughout the year. Football is followed passionately with 36 league teams competing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions. Matches are held in many towns and villages usually at weekends.

Culture

Festivals
The traditional forms of culture are to be found in music, dancing and various crafts such as embroidery and lace making. Folk music and dancing are normally performed in North Cyprus's many festivals and fairs, the most important of which are the orange festival, water melon festival, grape festival, 20th July celebrations and the folklore festival. The Ataturk Cultural centre opposite Girne Gate in Nicosia, houses a concert hall an art gallery a lecture theatre and a library holding over 50,000 books, including English French and German books. It provides varied shows, plays, concerts and seminars, sometimes aimed at foreign visitors. During the summer months open air concerts are also held in the ancient amphitheatre of Salamis.

Shopping
For typical souvenirs of North Cyprus shop for embroidery, lacework, sheepskin rugs, and hand painted pottery. Leather ware and carpets imported from Turkey are also good value. Spectacles made locally are exceptional value as well as tailor made garments. Philatelists will also find a number of shops specializing in the postal history of North Cyprus.

Watersports
The superb climate and its warm seas make North Cyprus an ideal place for water sports. Many of the island's main resort Hotels have amenities, which include wind surfing, dinghy sailing, water skiing, Jet skiing, para-ascending, motor boating scuba diving and snorkelling. There are at least two good scuba diving schools in the Kyrenia resort, offering PADI and BSAC diving courses as well as professional diving facilities by qualified diving instructors.

Racket sports
There are floodlit tennis courts available in many Hotels as well as table tennis and squash. All larger hotels also offer facilities for volleyball, basketball and mini golf. Other sports such as cycling, pony trekking, hiking and mountain walking are available throughout the year. There are at least 4 horse riding establishments charging the equivalent of approximately 7 to 12 dollars per hour.

Walking
In North Cyprus a walker can freely pass anywhere in the country except for the clearly marked military areas. There are many footpaths and forestry tracks, however, marked and mapped walking trails are very few. Except for the hot summer months (June, July and August) it is always pleasant to walk in Northern Cyprus especially between the villages of the northern coastline. Leaflets and maps of trekking trails are available from Tourism bureaus and most agents. Jewels of the World offer walking tour programmes which can be pre-booked in the UK.

Booking notes
A deposit of 20% of the total rent charge is payable on booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to departure. Receipt of your deposit will be acknowledged by post.

Golf
There is no official golf course in North Cyprus however, visitors will be welcomed at CMC Golf Club at Yesilyurt, a coastal village a short distance west of Guzelyurt. This is a 7 hole course originally laid out by the Cyprus Mines Corporation in 1920's, later re modelled in 1949. Although it is open daily the members gather only certain days of the week, which include Sunday mornings. There are a few sets of clubs available for visitors to borrow. Beer and sandwiches are served in an informal atmosphere.
