See the newly discovered Cobbe portrait of Shakespeare, believed to be the only portrait of Shakespeare painted in his lifetime. This ground-breaking exhibition is at Shakespeare's Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, from 23 April only until 6 September 2009.

Situated on the banks of the River Avon in the heart of rural Warwickshire, Stratford-upon-Avon is a beautiful market town steeped in history and culture - an ideal holiday destination at any time of year.
Heritage Mews is within easy walking distance of the town centre with its rich variety of historic buildings and unique attractions, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace and two other beautifully preserved Shakespeare Houses and Gardens - Nash's House and Hall's Croft. You can visit Shakespeare's tomb in Holy Trinity Church, one of England's most beautiful parish churches sitauted on the banks of the Avon – two or three minutes' walk from Heritage Mews. The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Courtyard Theatre is just six minutes walk. Nearby is the celebrated "Dirty Duck" pub, with a terrace overlooking the river, and inside, walls of signed photographs of Royal Shakespeare Company actors past and present.
There are delightful walks through parks and gardens along the banks of the River Avon which provides boating, sight-seeing and restaurant cruises. You can cross the river on an old pedestrian chain ferry - the last to be built in Britain. Or take a 'City Sightseeing' open-top bus tour of the town and nearby villages, including Anne Hathaway's Cottage in Shottery and Mary Arden's House in Wilmcote. Walk across the Old Tramway Bridge and visit the fascinating Butterfly Farm. Regular live music at Cox’s Yard, weekly Stratford Jazz and classical concerts cater for all tastes. There is an award-winning daily guided Town Walk, a Ghost Walk and a lively market in the town centre every Friday.
Explore the nearby 'Greenway' cycle trail - cycles can be hired in town - or visit Stratford Leisure Centre with a swimming pool and fitness studio. In summer there are weekly craft markets and outdoor theatre and cinema on the banks of the Avon.
Stratford's Christmas Lights (from the end of November) are regarded as amongst the finest in the country. There are weekly Christmas markets, late night shopping, candlelit tours of Shakespeare's Birthplace and a variety of festive events. Nearby National Trust properties, including Charlecote Park, Upton House and Coughton Court are open, with winter parkland and garden walks, the houses sumptuously dressed for Christmas, carols, markets and other special events.
Stratford town centre offers an excellent choice of award-winning restaurants, pubs, bars, bistros, traditional tearooms and cafes. There is also excellent shopping, with antique centres, art galleries and a wide variety of interesting independent shops as well as well-known high street names – all within a short walk.
Heritage Mews is ideally located for exploring the scenic Cotswold Hills and South Warwickshire countryside. Within a short drive are the beautiful Cotswold villages of Chipping Campden and Broadway; internationally renowned Hidcote Manor Garden; Moreton-in-Marsh with its famous Tuesday market, and nearby Batsford Arboretum; Warwick, with its antique shops and magnificent medieval castle; Kenilworth Castle (English Heritage); and a number of National Trust houses and gardens, including Charlecote Park, Baddesley Clinton, Packwood House, Coughton Court and Upton House. You can enjoy leisurely drives through country lanes and rolling countryside, with many delightful villages to explore and excellent traditional country pubs.
Birmingham city centre, with its 'Mailbox' and stylish shopping malls, excellent restaurants, National Indoor Arena (NIA) and Symphony Hall (considered one of the best concert halls in the world), is about an hour by train.
The National Exhibition Centre is about 40 minutes drive.
Stoneleigh Park Exhibition and Conference Centre, near Coventry, is about 30 minutes drive.

As connoisseurs of staying in rental properties in the Stratford upon Avon area we can say that Heritage Mews is truly five star and by far the best. It is an excellent location to enjoy the town and the surrounding countryside.

There are two bedrooms - an elegant double bedroom with five foot king-size bed and an attractive single bedroom, both with wardrobes and ample storage space. Both the single and double beds have comfortable pocket-sprung mattresses, quality duvets, pillows and throws, and crisply laundered bed linen. Spare blankets and optional flat sheets are provided. There are hair dryers in both bedrooms and a radio alarm clock in the double bedroom.
Bathrooms:
The pristine white bathroom has a hotel quality 'Carronite' bath with a thermostatically-controlled 'Grohe' shower over the bath, toilet and wash basin. There is a mirrored cabinet with lights, wall mirror, shaver point and plenty of shelving.
Kitchen:
The immaculate modern kitchen has Amtico flooring and is well equipped with a dishwasher, washer-dryer, fridge-freezer, microwave, gas hob and electric multi-function oven.
There is a full range of dinner and tea services, glassware, cutlery, cookware, toaster, electric kettle, cafetiere and a Roberts DAB digital radio. An iron and ironing board are provided.
Living Rooms:
The comfortably furnished sitting/ dining room opens onto the private courtyard-style garden. There is a large two-seater sofa, armchair, footstool and coffee table. A Sony Bravia LCD digital television, a DVD recorder and VCR are provided for your entertainment, together with a micro music system and a selection of DVDs, videos, CDs, books and games. There is comprehensive information on local tourist attractions and a diary of events during your stay. The dining table comfortably seats four. A highchair /booster seat can be provided on request.
Cleaning/towels/linen/maid Service:
Guests can be assured they will find the property spotlessly clean (to 5 star standard) on their arrival.
Bed linen and towels (bath and hand towels, bath mats, kitchen and tea towels) are provided and included in the rent. These are changed weekly.
Cot linen (quality cotton sheets and blankets)is provided with the solid beechwood cot. There is an additional charge of £25 GBP per week or short break for use of the cot and cot linen.
Sleeping capacity:
Two bedrooms, sleeps three. Cot available.
Notes on accommodation: PRIVATE PARKING: there are two off-road parking spaces for guests within the private mews - a real benefit in Stratford-upon-Avon, where street parking is restricted throughout the town centre and Old Town. There is one parking space through the gate at the end of the garden (convenient for unloading your car) and another space in an adjacent courtyard.
WIFI:a wireless broadband connection is provided for guests to use free of charge. This is password protedted (with WPA encryption) for security. Network cables and a wireless laptop card are provided should you need them.
COT:a solid beechwood 'Mamas & Papas' cot with 'Sleepsafe' mattress and full cot linen (quality cotton sheets and blankets) can be added to the single bedroom on request. There is an additional charge of £25 per week or short break.
Other baby equipment (e.g. stairgate, highchair / booster seat, bath, stool, toilet training seat) is available on request. There is no additional charge for these.

By road - Stratford-upon-Avon is 6 miles (10km) from the M40, Junction 15.
By air - Birmingham International Airport is 29 miles (46 km) - about 40 minutes drive. Car hire and taxis are available at the airport.
By train - Stratford railway station is ¾ mile (1.2 km). Taxis are usually waiting at the station.
By coach - Riverside Bus Station is in the town centre, a few minutes by taxi.

You can make a provisional booking by email or telephone. To secure a booking we require a £75 non-refundable deposit per week or short break and a completed Booking Form confirming your acceptance of our Terms and Conditions of Hire (please see our website).
The balance of the rental is payable 8 weeks before arrival. For bookings made within 8 weeks of the arrival date, the total rental must be paid at the time of booking.
We accept payments by cheque or bank transfer in £ /GBP or by PayPal.
Please note there is a small additional charge for electronic payments from banks outside the UK (GBP7) and for PayPal (4%).
Changeover day
Weekly holiday lets are from Saturday to Saturday. You can arrive any time after 3pm. The owners will be at the property to hand over the keys and answer any questions you may have. The property must be vacated by 10am on departure day.
Short breaks are available in January, February, March, November and December (excluding Christmas and New Year). You can stay 2 nights or longer - weekend or mid-week. Arrival day and length of stay are flexible, depending on availability.

To the rear of the cottage is a delightful private patio garden, with solar lights and furnished with table and chairs – great for summer outdoor dining or just relaxing. There is sun (or shade under the tree if needed)from early morning to late afternoon in the summer. Planted for all year round colour and interest, the garden is a delight to look out onto in all seasons.
