We are in the Berry, the southern part of the Loire Valley, ideally situated for exploring the whole region. To the north are the grand chateaux of the Loire such as Chenonceau and Chambord, the historic town of Bourges and the fine wines of Sancerre. To the west you will find the Brenne Natural Regional Park with its lakes for fishing and picnics and the attractive golf course at Villedieu; to the east, the picturesque town of La Châtre; to the south the vast lake of Eguzon for water sports. A notable weekly market takes place at St Août (10 minutes’ drive) and you should visit the excellent restaurants such as the Auberge de la Petite Fadette at Nohant Vic. Interesting walks and a tranquil riverside for fishing are on the doorstep.

Description:
Les Canardeaux is a spacious stone cottage with exposed oak beams, log burning fire and private pool. It is in the heart of the French countryside but close to amenities and friendly golf course.
A corridor leads to the downstairs bedrooms, one double with French windows overlooking the terrace and one single bedroom with space for a cot as well. Upstairs there is a large double room, also with space for a cot, and a second single bedroom.
Bathrooms:
The bathroom is situated between the two upstairs bedrooms and has a corner bath with shower over. There is also a separate wc on this floor and another wc with hand basin on the ground floor.
Kitchen:
The kitchen is equipped with halogen hob, cooker hood, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and an excellent range of utensils.
Living Rooms:
The open plan living area has comfortable leather armchairs and settee with the wood burning fire acting as focal point on cooler evenings. The TV has 6 French channels and a multitude of UK ones via satellite. There is also a DVD player and video player with a supply of DVDs - or bring your own. Wifi internet access means you can set up your laptop here, or anywhere else in the cottage.
Cleaning/towels/linen/maid Service:
Bed linen and towels, including pool towels, are included in the price and bed linen is changed once a week. There is a charge of 70 euros for end of stay cleaning if you prefer not to do it yourself.
Utility room:
There is a small utility room on the first floor where you will find the iron, ironing board, clothes airer, spare bulbs, batteries and cleaning equipment.

Travel
We are less than 6 hours from Calais and about 1 ½ hours from Limoges airport via a toll-free motorway (A20). Tours and Poitiers airports are both about 2 ¼ hours' drive. A car is essential.
Further details
Ambrault, about 3 minutes by car, has a bread shop, butcher/general store, cafe and restaurant. The cottage is also served by a bread van which calls three times a week.
There are hypermarkets at both Issoudun and Chateauroux and supermarkets that open on Sunday morning in Issoudun and Ardentes.

Deposit (25% on reservation). Balance 8 weeks' prior to holiday date.
Changeover day
Changeover day is normally Saturday. Guests may arrive from 5 pm and are asked to leave by 10 am on their departure day.
Golf
There are two 18-hole golf courses about half an hour’s drive away to the west and east respectively, and there is a friendly 9-hole course about 15 mins' drive to the north.
Fishing
Fishing is possible in the nearby river which is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the cottage.
Wine Tasting
There are many opportunities for wine tasting in wineries within about 25 minutes of the property. Sancerre is probably the best known but also the most expensive, so it is well worth trying the lesser known wines which you may not find so easily at home, such as Reuilly, Quincy, Valencay and Chateaumeillant.
Accessibility
Les Canardeaux is not recommended for wheelchair users or anyone who would have difficulty climbing stairs.
Outside
The extensive garden is gated for privacy, sheltered by trees and looks out over open farmland at the back. There is plenty of grassy space for football, badminton and other outdoor games. The terrace, which is like an extra room in summer, is covered to offer shade, has a huge fixed table and six chairs, as well as a permanent barbeque. It is conveniently situated overlooking the pool. There are four loungers and two upright chairs alongside the pool.
