The gite is situated on the Dordogne/Limousin border. Richard the Lionheart was one the area’s famous ‘visitors’; the castle where he met his demise is close by at Chalus. Other chateaux and beautiful towns and villages are within easy reach.
Brantome - known as the Venice of the Dordogne – with its river trips, and ample supply of restaurants and shops is not to be missed. The prehistoric caves at Villars and the Roman Baths at Chassenon are also worth a visit. An hour’s drive will find you in Limoges famous for its porcelain, Angouleme with its ramparts, Perigueux with its picturesque old narrow streets; while the brandy distilleries at Cognac, the vineyards of Bordeaux, Futuroscope at Poitiers and the Atlantic Coast are a little further a field.
Shopping/Eating Out
The nearest village is Marval at 1.5 kms, it has a tabac/grocery shop, a post office and a bar/restaurant. The local towns of Piegut (5 kms) and Nontron (15 kms) have weekly markets selling fresh local produce, modern supermarkets, petrol stations, banks, hairdressers and other shops. There are numerous restaurants offering a variety of dishes and local specialities at a range of prices.

The light and airy gite has a number of period features including stone work, ceiling beams and chestnut flooring. It is situated on one level, sleeps two people and, whilst adjoining the owner’s home, is completely self-contained with its own private patio area and outlook onto the large garden.

Distances
Limoges Airport (40 klms) with flights from London Stansted, Southampton, Liverpool, and Newcastle.
Angouleme Airport (45 kolms) and Poitiers Airport (110 klms) have flights from London Stansted and Birmingham. Car hire is available at all the aiports.

Changeover day
All prices are per week from 4pm Saturday to 10 am Saturday and include gas, electricity, wood, linen - with the exception of towels for pool use.
A welcome pack is also included in the price. The pack contains wine, beers, tea, coffee, bread, ham, butter, cheese, eggs, milk, water and croissants; enough to prepare a light meal on arrival and breakfast the following morning.
Golf
La Preze golf course is a 20 minute drive from the gite. There are other other courses at St Junien, Limoges, Perigeux and Angouleme.
Fishing
There are numerous lakes in the area for carp fishing.
Beach
Three lovely lakeside beaches nearby
Wine Tasting
The renowned areas of St Emilion and Bergerac are easily accessible by car.
Outside
Outside there is a covered barbecue area, and garden furniture and sun loungers on the private patio. This overlooks the 10m x 5m swimming pool which is share with the owners however guests are always given priority and a large attractive garden.
