The premier ski resort in the French Pyrenees is La Mongie Bareges, but it is not the only resort you can travel to from Bagneres. Other prime ski resorts close by are:

| Description: |
The house is situated in a pleasant square, Place Jeanne d’Albret, and only two minutes walking distance to the town centre with its shops, bakeries, restaurants, squares and churches. It has recently been completely renovated and where possible all the original features have been kept. It is a typical old French town house of the area and is around 300 years old although its foundations go back 400 years. The character of this house remains untouched whilst containing all the necessary ‘mod cons’ for modern living.
The first double bedroom contains a double bed, wash basin and a balcony overlooking the town square.
The second double bedroom contains a double bed with balcony and leading from this room there is a twin bedded room. There is also a twin bedded room in the newly renovated attic with a wash basin plus an adjoining sitting room.
There is a combined bathroom with corner bath and shower and toilet and also another room offering a separate toilet.
In addition there is a separate shower room (with bath). All hot water is limitless and on demand.There are several ski resorts within easy driving distance. The nearest and the largest in the Pyrenees is La Mongie which is approx. 20Km away and can be reached by car or by a bus service which runs to the resort and back.
This special resort is virtually undiscovered outside south west France, so take advantage of a chance to be a lone Brit in a beautiful ski resort where ski passes are still at a reasonable price!
La Mongie is situated in the Domaine du Tourmalet and has 69 pistes, 23 green, 19 blue, 21 red and 6 black. 43 ski lifts and a snow park. Off piste and cross country skiing are available with guides if required. There are many local hire shops for all your skiing needs.
The foot hills of the Pyrénées start 2 minutes from behind my house and so a car is not an essential. From the foot hills, there is a variety of walks of differing challenge and duration. All walks are well sign-posted. For new walkers, I can hire a guide for the day for you. There are many publications of walks should you want to go it alone and I keep many such booklets. Click on Google, walking in the Hautes Pyrénées for an idea of the scope and flavour of what is available to you.

The accommodation is cosy and warm. It has 3 flights of stairs to the top floor, so is not really suited either to small children under 5 or people with mobility problems.

Travel
The nearest airport is Pau, where Ryanair fly from Stansted. Flights are as low a £0.99 return! Pau is around 40 miles from Bagneres. The next nearest airport, with flights from all over the UK is Toulouse, which is 92 miles along an excellent motorway to Bagneres. The ski resort is approximately 16 miles from the accommodation, and though there is a ski bus service to the ski resort, a hire car is recommended, as it gives greater flexibility and car parking in the resort is plentiful.

Bagneres is a thriving spa and market town. There is an excellent leisure centre, Aquensis, which offers a magnificent water experience, as well as fitness and games.

Ski
La Mongie-Bareges is France's best kept ski resort secret. The two ski areas are linked by a fast chair. The skiing and facilities are truly excellent, with a massive area to ski, plenty of lifts and without the crowds. The off-piste is very under exploited, with lots of potential. Boarders are well catered for with the off-piste as well as a snow park. The resort is situated almost midway along the length of the Pyrenees. It is readily accessible, some 15 km from the accommodation.
La Mongie-Bareges have plenty of blues and reds for the intermediates, as well as un-pisted blacks and off-piste for the more expert. Beginners are well served with excellent green runs and a purpose built slope in the town, which has night skiing on 2 nights per week.
There is a ski school with expert tuition for all levels.
Equipment can be hired in the town of La Mongie or at the half way stage, where there are shops, bars, restaurants as well.
