Pian Di Cascina is a traditionally restored 17th century Umbrian stone farmstead, set in 20 acres of private, idyllic countryside. Pian di Cascina is an oasis of rest and relaxation, in the midst of olive groves, fig, walnut and oak trees. At an altitude of 600m asl, you can experience a moderate, more refreshing climate, even on a hot summer's day. The Farmstead has been carefully restored with attention to detail using traditional Umbrian stone, oak beams and terracotta paving. Each property has a fully equipped handmade luxury kitchen with dishwasher, double bedrooms with king sized beds, en-suite bathrooms with large luxury showers and private terraces with BBQs. There is a generous 16m x 8m swimming pool with fantastic views, large sun terraces with shade and sun loungers. We offer first class accommodation, stunning views, rolling hills and mountain wilderness. The farmstead is within walking distance (15 mins) of the village of Carbonesca, which has several bars and a shop.

We have stayed here twice now - Isabel and Paul are fantastic hosts, the location is perfect for seeing Assisi and Gubbio - and the villa is spotlessly clean and really well equipped - we had a fab family holiday here and we will be back! Go - you wont regret it!

All bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom, except one of the twin rooms (which has a private bathroom downstairs)One of the king rooms has a bath tub, separate walk-in shower, basin, bidet and wc. The other 2 bathrooms have a walk-in shower, basin, wc and bidet.
All the bathrooms have power showers with good water pressure, modern white bathroom suites and there is a mirror and a shaving light.

Pian Di Cascina is located midway between the towns of Gubbio and Assisi. It is nestled in the hillside of Caresto, a protected ‘green belt’ area well known for its stunning natural beauty.
The house is 600 m above sea level, so even on the hottest of summer days, the air is fresh. The nearest villages are Carbonesca and Casa Castalda, which are just off the main road to the town of Gubbio.
AIR TRAVEL
The nearest airport for direct flights from London is Perugia, which is less than half an hour’s drive from the house.
Ryan Air fly to Perugia at least 3 times a week from London Stanstead.
Ryan Air also fly at least once a day into Ancona from London Stanstead and there are also regular flights from Liverpool.
Flights are very reasonably priced. Ancona is less than 1 hours drive from the property.
Many of our guests fly into Bologna Forli airport with Ryan Air, making the drive to the house about 2.5 hours
Pisa airport is about 3 hours drive away and Easy Jet, among other airlines, flies to Pisa.
Rome airport is only a 2.5 hour drive from the house.
Florence Airport is 2.5 hours drive from the house.
If you are flying direct from America, you can fly into Rome and either drive (2.5 hours) or get a connecting flight to Perugia airport (25 mins drive) or fly into Bologna (2.5 hours)
We recommend you hire a car from the airport you fly into, as many of the airlines do discount car hire if you book with the company of their choice. However, we can arrange a taxi service to pick you up, should you wish not to drive (additional charge).
CAR HIRE
We recommend you hire a car whilst you are in Italy. There is public transport, but a lot of the most interesting villages in Umbria are off the beaten track, and therefore a car is essential.
Hertz are usually a good company to hire from.
The prices are reasonable and cars are generally in good condition.
PIAN DI CASCINA BY CAR
From the UK the drive takes about two days.
The best route is to take the ferry to Calais and drive down through France on the toll motorways through the Mount Blanc tunnel into Italy.
There is a reasonable hotel at Macon or one near Geneva , both ideal places to stop for the night.
Once in Italy, it’s a fairly direct route through the Aosta valley to Bologna and Fano.

FESTIVALS
Umbrian towns are famous all over Italy for their many summer festivals (festas) and autumn harvest festivals (sagras). Perugia hosts the world famous Perugia Jazz Festival (beginning of July), the International Music festival in September and the Chocolate Festival at the end of October.
Most villages and towns host their own food related festa in the summer and autumn. A few of the better known celebrations worth visiting are:
The Festa del Bosco, Montone (end of October-2nd November), the annual Chamber Music Festival, Citta Di Castello (end of August, beginning of September) also in Citta, the Truffle Festival (the first weekend in November), the Slow Food festival in Orvieto (October), The Teatro Nuovo theatre festival in Spoleto (end of June-beginning of July), and the medieval festival at Narni (the second Sunday in May).

MEDIEVAL SPORTS
Ancient sports are a chance for the local neighbourhoods to compete and demonstrate the traditional skills of the region. The crossbow matches in Gubbio, held on the last Sunday in May (the Palio della Balestra) and the 14th of August (The Torneo dei Quartieri) in full medieval dress with processions and feasts are spectacular, as is the annual horse race in Siena.
RELIGIOUS CELEBRATIONS
Gubbio is famous all over the world for its candle carrying ceremony, the Festa dei Ceri. Held once a year on May 15th, the vigil of the feast day of St Ubaldo the town’s patron saint and bishop.
The whole town participates in the day long ceremony. The highlight is the race to get the three ceri, or giant candle sticks, up the steep cobbled streets of Gubbio into the church at the top. The race is followed by a candle lit procession with the statues of the three saints to the church of the Muratori.
On Good Friday there is a traditional procession, and at Christmas there are local food fairs and special masses when the hillside is illuminated in the form of a giant Christmas tree.
Many of the other towns and villages stage celebrations and processions in medieval dress to celebrate various victories or religious events of the past. Noteworthy are the Easter processions in Assisi for St Francis, and the Calendimaggio, held the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday after the 1st of May in Assisi to celebrate the arrival of Spring and the festival of the Corpus Domini held in early June in Orvieto.

There is a lawned play area with badminton, boule, table football and ping pong. For young children there is a paddling pool and a sand pit.
